Who are we?

The Writing Center (KUWC) is an Academic Writing Program service.   Our writing consultants are experienced academic writing instructors who are here to review your papers with you and provide feedback.

What do we do?

We offer one-on-one consulting sessions to all KU students and faculty members. We provide coaching on becoming better writers and support you throughout the writing process. We help develop your strengths and deal with any particular writing challenges you might have. However, while we do provide writing support, we do not write or edit your paper.

Who can use the Writing Center?

All Koç University students and faculty members are welcome to use our free services.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Please bring the project you are working on and some form of project instructions (prompt, website information, e-mail from professor, job listing, etc.). Please also bring your KU ID.

What happens during the tutoring session?

We begin by asking you questions about your project in order to understand the issues with which you need the most help. Depending on where you are in the writing process, we can focus on brainstorming for ideas, revising the structure, addressing grammar and language mistakes, improving clarity, or improving your analysis. A regular session is 50 minutes long.

Can I work with you on any type of writing?

We provide writing help for the following types of writing within all disciplines:

• Response and term papers for your classes
• Theses and dissertations
• Motivation letters and statements of purpose
• Abstracts and papers for conferences
• Publications
• Cover letters

How do I find you?

We are located in room 160 of the College of Social Sciences and Humanities (SOS).

How many appointments can I make?

You are entitled to 8 appointments per semester, with a maximum of 3 appointments per document.

What can I expect at the end of my session?

It is important to remember that writing is a process, and finding your voice and becoming confident and competent in writing will take time.
